Road Tripping

In a little over a week I will set out to taste a classic piece of Americana: the road trip. I promised myself that the next time I was between jobs that I would see the Grand Canyon. If you can't keep a promise to yourself, whom can you keep one to? I thought, "Hey, while you're out there, you might as well see the west coast." So anyway, I will seek to find the big hole in the ground, spend time with some good friends, soak in some of God's creation, and think and read a lot. On the list of sites to visit are: Denver, Flagstaff, Sedona, Phoenix, San Diego, the City of Angels, Monterey, San Fran, Redwood National Forest, Portland, Bend, Tacoma, Seattle, (Juno???), and more. If you have any recommendations for places to go, things to do, or people to see, please drop me an email or leave a comment. If I end up taking your advice, and it proves to be good advice, you'll get a postcard or a little treat … and a public note of gratitude posted on this very web site for the whole world to see.

In San Diego, go down to the Cabrillo National Monument (its a great place to have some fun while wearing Chaco’s), and stop by Point Loma College (just a few blocks from Cabrillo) and try to remember why you went to Taylor as you look at their very beautiful campus. Also, in San Diego, a good place to eat out with some friends is Dick’s (www.dickslastresort.com).

Just north of San Diego, stop by Torrey Pines State Beach for some easy hiking in a very unique setting. (on the way, don’t forget to see the seals in La Jolla)

As you continue north, just skip LA, there’s nothing to see there….

  1. I need some more details. Who all is going? Mode of transportation? Sleeping/lodgeing plans. I’m living my roadtripping love through you!

  2. Mode of Transport: Car
Who’s All Going: Me, isn’t that enough? I’ll be meeting good folk along the way … some that I’ve met before, some that I’ll meet for the first time.
Sleeping/Lodging: Car, Tent, Creepy Cheap Motels

    Hola Mateo,
While in San Fran, ride the trolley cars as much as possible, definitely take the ferry to alcatraz, see Sausalito and have some Ghiradelli chocolate. In Sedona, AZ go see the church in the rock. It’s really cool! When in the Redwoods, PLEASE drive your car through the only one you can drive you car through…it’s wild, and please take pictures. In Seattle, don’t bother with the space needle, but DO go to Pike’s fish market. Go see Mary and Erik while in Portland as well as the Rose garden. If you can go to Santa Barbara, DO, and go see the Reagan Ranch. It will not disappoint. Please eat as much In-N-Out burger as you can while you are there because it rocks. Tell me what you like about San Diego when you get there because Chip and I are heading there for Spring Break 2007. Take care and blog a lot…with PICS!
